It has been four years now, since being introduced to the law of attraction. From day one the one and only thing I have been attracting into my life is more money. I would sit quietly for twenty to thirty minutes every day, imagining myself purchasing everything I desire with my money. My dream car, my dream home, a new wardrobe, you name it. I went as far as to make myself a budget sheet, just to make it seem even more real. For those brief moments I felt great, imagining money falling over me. It was invigorating.

But after years of attracting and not receiving more money, I began to question the law of attraction. Was there something I was missing? Should it take this long to receive what I am attracting? Was it all just a gimmick to get people to buy into the whole law of attraction?

My life was like a roller coaster. Sometimes we were up and other times down, financially that is. But this time was different. Both my husband and I were laid off from our high paying jobs. We had to cut back on our expenses. Which included, removing our sons from a private learning environment, canceling our gym membership with a well known prestigious fitness center and voluntarily calling the bank to reposes one of our cars. We have come to point on the roller coaster, where we find ourselves at the lowest point of the ride. Now more than ever I was constantly in, law of attraction money mode. I felt it, I believed it, and I hoped on it. I even played the lottery so that money can come to me in every direction. But our cart just wasn’t moving up the rollercoaster. Instead of moving at the same angle, we were moving slightly downward. After a year, we had to move out of our home and voluntarily calling the bank once again to pickup the second car. It was at this point on the rollercoaster I have come to realize something grand. It was as if this one single event put everything else that we have experienced since day one into perspective.

One day, my son and I went to the grocery store. As always I held his hand as we walk through the parking lot. Then my son stops suddenly and grabs a penny off the floor and with joy shouts, “Money!!!!!! I found money mommy”. With disgust, I quickly tapped his hand and the penny fell to the ground. “Baby, that’s dirty, please do not do that again. We don’t pick up money off the floor. Okay! It’s dirty okay!” I told him as I cleaned his hand with disinfectant wipe. It was then that the words I told him kept on repeating over and over in my mind. Almost as if someone was trying to get my attention. Trying to get me to not just listen, but to hear what I just said. At that moment, I realized that I have been receiving money from the universe all this time, but never received it with gratitude. The problem was I was looking for a lump sum of money that will take care of my entire financial situation. But how could the universe give me a lump sum if I don’t acknowledge the little I receive. There have been so many times that I would walk over a penny, dime, or even a nickel and not even look twice. However, I would stop to get a quarter or more.

From that day forward, I decided to be thankful for all the money I receive from the universe; no matter how little. I would get as excited as my son does when he finds money. A lot of the times we would find it together. It has actually become a family thing now. Surprisingly, after a week of collecting change where ever I go and being truly and deeply thankful; I began finding money where ever I go.
